Makeup Remix: Where Skincare Meets Makeup

18.12.2023 | Skincare

In the world of makeup and skincare, we are constantly on the pursuit for the next best product. We often purchase new makeup and skincare to serve a distinct purpose in our daily routines, but what if you were able to enhance the products that you already own? Maybe you’ve found a foundation that you love, but wish it was a tad more hydrating. Or perhaps you have a perfect shade of lip color, but wish the formula was more nourishing.

Well, we’ll let you into a secret, now you can. Welcome to the art of mixing makeup with skincare, a new approach that gives you the best of both worlds - think maximizing your results with minimal effort.

Get ready, we’re about to elevate your beauty game and take it to a whole new level.

What is Makeup Mixing?

Makeup Mixing is the trick of combining makeup with your favorite skincare products to enhance the texture, finish and wearability. Think creating the ultimate dewy finish foundation or amplifying lip color with skin-loving ingredients.

It is important to know what type of formula you’re starting with because it can impact the compatibility and performance of the product for your skin type. Being able to distinguish between the two can aid in selecting the products that will suit your skin type, desired finish and preference.

Water-Based Formulas

Water-based formulas typically don’t have silicone or oil at the top of their (INCI) ingredient list. They are designed to be oil-free, making them more breathable and lightweight. Additionally, water-based formulas tend to be buildable and easier to blend, offering more forgiving application and can help control excess oil production and minimize the appearance of shine. Common ingredients found in water based foundations include Water, Hyaluronic Acid, Emollients, Glycerin, Panthenol and Sodium PCA. These ingredients are commonly used to provide hydration and aid in maintaining the skin’s moisture balance.

Oil-Based Formulas

Oil-based formulas typically contain oils at the top of their (INCI) ingredient list.
Common types of oils found in foundations include Mineral oil, Jojoba oil and Argan oil. These oils are included to provide additional moisturization, improve texture and give a luminous, dewy finish.

Perfect Pairs

Foundation

Polyglutamic Acid Serum is a powerful hydrator that locks in moisture and helps skin appear smoother. Mixing 1 pump into foundation can give foundation a glowy finish and additional hydration.

Niacinamide Serum is a power-packed serum that helps aid in reducing the appearance of excess oil and redness. Mix a pea-sized amount into your foundation to reduce the appearance of excess oil and redness.

Excess Oil Solution is perfect for oil and having a velvet finish that lasts for up to 8 hours. It also helps reduce appearance of large pores. Mix a pea-sized amount into your foundation to help control oils, aid in minimizing appearance of pores and give skin a velvet finish.

Concealer

Caffeine Eye Cream is the perfect eye cream for tired, puffy eyes in need of a wake-up call. Mix in a rice grain-sized amount of Caffeine Eye Cream to concealer for a hydrated, seamless blend.

Lipstick

Tripeptide Plumping Lip Balm, our clinically proven plumping lip care, can be mixed with a matte liquid lipstick to give a more hydrating, sheer finish. Mix a small amount with a matte lipstick for a sheer finish. Layer on top of a matte lip for a glossy finish.

Once you’re ready to wash away your makeup, don’t forget to use Oat Cleansing Balm as your first cleanse. Oat Cleansing Balm leaves skin feeling clean and hydrated! Squeeze a raspberry-sized amount onto hands then gently massage onto dry skin, working the balm into the skin to remove makeup, SPF, and impurities. Add a splash of warm water to emulsify and continue to work into skin before rinsing or removing with a damp face cloth if preferred. Use AM and PM, follow with serums and moisturizer. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

Now you’re ready to look at what you already have in your makeup bag and remix your way. Get creative, play with different pairings and find your perfect formulas.
